            Lawrence Holliday, of the parish of St Clements, Hastings, found guilty on an indictment for the murder of Thomas Avann, by striking him with a hammer whereby he instantly died, in the parish of Fairlight on 8th September 1740.  He was ordered to be executed and afterwards his body to be hanged in chains near the spot on Fairlight Common where the murder was committed.  No reprieve traced.
